Flood water safety and operations

This 1-day course introduces personnel to the problems associated with swift water and flood rescue as well as procedures to follow in flash flooding situations. Our world is changing: extreme weather is occurring more often. Those 100-year floods are now occurring every other year; therefore, we must adapt prepare to respond now. The course is designed to develop knowledge in the areas of: scene assessment and incident size up (of both existing and potential conditions) resource ordering activation procedures for rescue response, site control and scene management, hazard recognition and mitigation procedures. In order to accomplish the responsibilities of the awareness level responder, the course also provides students with a conceptual understanding of the principles, applications, and hazards associated with advanced water rescue techniques. Students will be guided through safely crossing flooded streets and swollen streams, shore-based rescue techniques, and an introduction to watercraft operations in a flood environment.
