NFPA ICE RESCUE TECHNICIAN (IRT) 16hrs

This 2 day Ice Rescue Technician course is a must-have for any emergency response agency in New England. An all-hazards approach is expected by the communities we serve. This course focuses on a full range of techniques and command decision-making to successfully perform rescues in both cold/ice water environments. This course is tailored to the host agency, taking into consideration equipment limitations and unique terrain/water bodies. The curriculum also includes the significant medical considerations for patient packaging and extrication posed by cold water immersion. This course also covers how to handle animal rescues in the ice environment, keeping rescuers safe while humanly handling animals. This course includes a night session, adding the challenging element of low visibility conditions. This course includes an overview of skills and knowledge necessary for responding to incidents on surface ice over moving water, but for those who can expect a high frequency of callouts on large volume rivers with open leads, we suggest adding our 1-day Advanced Ice Rescue course to this 2-day Ice Rescue Technician course.

Note: This course is the standard-of-care for emergency responders who respond to incidents on surface ice. It meets and exceeds the NFPA 1670 and 1006 Standards.

*For organizations wishing to conduct Advanced Ice Rescue training on rivers with flowing ice, open leads, ice jams or ice dams, a Swiftwater Technician certification (SRT) will be a
prerequisite.
